Reading Is Self Defense: Part 1

Harry S. Truman said, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.”

During the month of January, we will be discussing the importance of reading with karate world students. Often in class we discuss topics such as anti-bullying, nutrition, time and anger management, community service, etc. The point I want to drive home to students is that the path to expertise in any of these areas can be found in a book!

Over the next several weeks I will cover my top 10 reasons why reading is self-defense.

1. Reading will help you gain more knowledge on a subject. It makes you smarter and capable of retaining more information!

This month, I have asked all students to read at least one age-appropriate book on the topic of their choice. At the end of the month, they will Bring in their book and give a short oral report. I encourage you to go to your local school or public library and get started looking for that perfect book today!
